Raisin Rolls

Unbelievable! It is already 30 April, I posted 29 recipes so far and this will be my last recipe in April! So here is my recipe for raisin rolls.

This is what you need:Rosinenbrötchen 001

500 g of flour
50 g of sugar
1 teaspoon of salt
1 cube of yeast or 1 bag of dried yeast
200 ml milk
1 egg
200 g raisins

Put the flour, sugar and salt in a mixing bowl, melt the yeast in warm milk and add it to the flour. Now also add the egg and butter and knead the dough. Finally, add the raisins. Prove the dough for about 45 minutes. Then form rolls and prove them for another 15 minutes. Smear them with milk and pop them in the oven. The roles are ready when they get brown.


500 g Mehl
50 g Zucker
1 TL Salz
1 Würfel Hefe oder 1 Tütchen Trockenhefe
200 ml Milch
200 g Rosinen

Mehl, Zucker und Salz kommen in eine Rührschüssel. Schmelze die Hefe in der warmen Milch und gebe sie zum Mehl. Nun kommen noch Butter und Ei dazu. Knete den Teig. Zum Schluss gebe noch die Rosinen hinzu. Lass den Teig nun für ca. 45 Minuten gehen. Forme Brötchen und lasse diese noch einmal für 15 Minuten gehen.  Bestreiche sie mit Milch und schiebe sie in den Ofen. Die Brötchen sind fertig wenn sie braun werden.

Hello! My motto on 15 April is Rock’n’Rolls! I try to bake rolls myself. I found this lovely recipe online and it has good ratings. So what should go wrong? 🙂

Here is what you need:Brötchen 003

500 g of flour (Type 550)
40 g of yeast
1 teaspoon of sugar
1 teaspoon of salt
150 ml of milk
150 ml of water
10 g butter

Make a yeast dough. Put the flour into a mixing bowl, make a hole in the middle of the flour and crumble the yeast into it. Put the sugar on the yeast, the salt on the surrounding flour. Melt the butter and add it with the milk and water to the bowl. Knead it. Prove the dough. Knead the dough again and form rolls. Then brush the rolls with water and put them in the oven (ca 240°C, ca 15-20 minutes). Put a bowl of water into the oven with the rolls!

10 g Butter

Stelle einen Hefeteig her. Fülle das Mehl in eine Rührschüssel, mache in der Mitte eine Mulde und bröckel die Hefe hinein. Der Zucker kommt auf die Hefe, das Salz and den Rand. Schmelze die Butter und füge sie mit der Milch und dem Wasser zum Mehl. Knete den Teig und lass ihn anschließend gehen. Knete den Teig erneut und forme Brötchen. Bestreiche sie mit Wasser und stecke sie in den Ofen (ca. 240°C, ca. 15-20 Minuten). Stelle eine Schüssel Wasser mit in den Ofen!

Even though rock’n’roll has not really something to do with this recipe for rolls, I started thinking about the term rock’n’roll. Okay, I know what rock’n’roll is, a music genre, and I probably could also identify some typical rock’n’roll musicians. But why is it called “rock’n’roll”???  This site argues that  the word “roll” was associated with sex. They give examples of sayings: “Let’s go for a roll in the hay”, for example. In the early 1900s rock had become to mean dancing to music with a “strong beat”. Rock and roll then merged together and stood for dancing sexually or even having sex. That seems plausible for me because rock’n’roll had been scandalous back then. Just think about Elvis’ hip movements… 😀 Rock’n’roll was also associated with Black musicians and was later promoted as a label to sell Black music to white people.

My rolls tasted great but unfortunately did not look very good. Today was not my day to work with yeast apparently! But I will try it again! Still, I believe the recipe is great, try it yourself and post fotos of your rolls, if you like!
