Muffin Monday

Yesterday was my brother’s 30th birthday and I could not be there because I had to work. So I drove over today bearing gifts and … Pizza Muffins! 🙂 A nice little snack! It’s Muffin Monday!!!

Here is what you need:

250 g of flour
½ cube of yeast
1/8 l of water
A dash of salt
1/3 teaspoon of sugar
1 teaspoon of olive oil
1 pepper
A tin of maize
Tomatoes
Tomato ketchup/ tomato purée
Salami
Cheese

Make a yeast dough. Put the flour into a mixing bowl, make a hole in the middle of the flour and crumble the yeast into it. The sugar goes on the yeast, the salt on the flour. Now add the water and knead the dough. Add the olive oil and knead again. Prove the dough. Cut the pepper, tomatoes and salami into very little pieces. Buy grated cheese or grate the cheese yourself.
Now roll out the dough and cut out circles with a cup. Roll out these circles again and put them in the greased muffin cups so that they cover the ground and the sides. Now put tomato purée or tomato ketchup on the dough in the muffin cups. The tomato purée needs a lot of seasoning. It tastes better with tomato ketchup! Now add some cheese on the ketchup. Season with pepper, salt and herbs (Pizza herbs, oregano). Now add salami, pepper, tomatoes and maize. Cut out smaller circles and place them as a lid on the pizza muffins. Smear some tomato ketchup on them and add some cheese again. Put them in the oven (ca 200°C, ca 15-20 minutes).

—————————————————————————-

250 g Mehl
½ Würfel Hefe
1/8 l Wasser
Eine Prise Salz
1/3 TL Zucker
1 TL Olivenöl
1 Paprika
1 Dose Mais
Tomaten
Passierte Tomaten/ Tomatenketchup
Salami
Käse

Stelle einen Hefeteig her.

I was a bit confused about the difference between cupcakes and muffins. Generally I know cupcakes are with frosting and beautifully decorated. But then in England muffins are little roll-like pastries. So what do you call what you call “Muffin” in Germany in England?  😉 This website explains that in England the flatter, hearty buns are called muffins, the sweet ones are normally labelled with “Muffins – American style”. In America, the flat ones are called “English Muffins” and the sweet ones just “Muffins”. Really complicated!
